The forms of Past Simple and Past Continuous Tense

How do we form Past Simple and Past Continuous?

For past simple tense, there isn't any speciality in its form. We use the second form (past simple form ) of the verb. For Past Continuous tense, we use was or were as helping verbs and also the main verb takes "-ing" form.

For example...

I was sleeping at two o'clock yesterday afternoon.

While they were having dinner, Elisa came home.

What were you doing at five yesterday?

It wasn't raining when we came out.

tipsDon't forget that there are some irregular verbs in the past simple tense.

For example...

play > played (regular verb)

go > went (irregular verb)
